Celebrates Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The world is breathlessly awaiting Rogue One: A Star Wars Story set to release on December 16th. This movie is exciting because it promises all new worlds, characters, and best of all, new things to 3D print! Last year, we blogged about how to create your own BB-8, the breakout star from The Force Awakens. Here are some of the amazing replicas, models, and toys that Simplify3D users have created in preparation for the new movie.

Darth Vader Bust

Simplify3D - 3D printed Darth Vader bust

Using Simplify3D, maker nakwada created this Darth Vader bust representing one of the most well known movie villains. This 7-piece mask is easy to print and needs no support. Nakwada printed the bust 260% of its original size using ABS filament and a 0.6mm nozzle. There is also a video, by 3D shrink, showing the component parts being printed.

Resistance Blaster

Many of the toys and weapons from the Star Wars saga have also been popular 3D printing projects. One of the most popular models comes from Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. The Resistance Blaster shown above was used by the dashing rebel pilot Poe Dameron. Using Simplify3D, user Cujo3131 printed this model and gave it a rough battle-worn appearance. Cujo3131 created this model with a 15% infill, 0.2mm resolution, 2 perimeter shells, and customized Simplify3D supports.

Stormtroopa

Simplify3D - 3D printed Star Wars supa troopa

A creative twist on a Star Wars classic figure is “Stormtroopa” from maker rigelbot. This Stormtrooper has been mashed up to have the shape and the posture of a Koopa Troopa from Super Mario Brothers. Rigelbot used a 30% Fast-Honeycomb infill on this 150-micron mashup and created a very cool video of the process.

These models highlight the creativity and personalization that 3D printing can bring to life. When you have the ability to make it yourself, you can create anything, even a Star Wars/Mario mashup.

Simplify3D Joins the Fun

With so many cool Star Wars prints being built for Rogue One, we couldn’t resist printing something ourselves. We decided to print the dual extrusion version of maker FLOWALISTIK’s Low-Poly Stormtrooper.

We used the unique dual extrusion wizard in Simplify3D to improve definition between the black and white materials and give our stormtrooper a nice crisp look. This little trooper will be attending the premier with us!
